Affiliate Marketing Terms You Should Know (Part 2)

Last month we started learning some affiliate marketing terms that every affiliate marketer should know. This month we’ll be continuing with some more terms that you should be familiar with as an affiliate marketer.

  • Cookie stuffing – affiliate loads cookies onto the user’s computers when they visit the site helping the culprit earn a commission on purchases, even if subsequent users don’t click their affiliate link.
  • Domain squatting – an act in which the culprit registers various domains with names similar to domains name.
  • Site cloning – copying of genuine affiliate site’s content
  • Lead: A potential customer.
  • PPC- (PPC stands for pay-per-click): A model in which advertisers pay for each click on one of their ads.
  • SEM – Search engine marketing can include search engine optimization, paid ads and other search engine related services.
  • Direct Linking – when your affiliate links directly go to the landing page instead of a redirect.
  • Keywords – A group of words/terms that Internet users use when looking for information on a topic.
  • Cloaking – The act of hiding affiliate tracking code in links.
  • Merchant – The advertiser in an affiliate marketing process. This is the person or company that has a product or service to sell and has affiliates doing the selling for them.
